Terms of Service
Last updated: 4 August 2026 · Draft pending legal review
1. About these terms
These terms govern your use of the Tapat website and loan application service. They are not your loan agreement. If your application is approved, the loan itself is governed by a written loan agreement that complies with the Money Lenders Ordinance (Cap. 163), which you will receive and sign before any money is disbursed, together with the summary of key terms required by law.
2. Who we are
Tapat is a licensed money lender in Hong Kong (Money Lender's Licence No. XXX/2026), regulated under the Money Lenders Ordinance and supervised by the Companies Registry.
3. The service
We offer unsecured personal loans of up to HK$5,500 to foreign domestic workers employed in Hong Kong. Applying is free. Every application is assessed individually, including the affordability assessment our licensing conditions require; submitting an application does not guarantee approval, and no statement on this website is an offer of credit.
4. Eligibility
To apply you must be at least 18 years old, hold a valid Hong Kong Identity Card, be employed in Hong Kong as a foreign domestic worker under a Standard Employment Contract, and provide the documents requested in the application. We may decline any application after assessment.
5. Interest and charges
- Interest is the only amount you pay above the principal. We charge no fees of any kind — no application, handling, processing, disbursement, late-payment or early-settlement fees. The Money Lenders Ordinance prohibits licensed money lenders from charging such fees.
- The interest rate applicable to your loan is stated in your loan agreement as both a monthly rate and an effective rate per annum calculated under Schedule 2 of the Money Lenders Ordinance. By law the effective rate cannot exceed 48% per annum.
- Interest is calculated on the outstanding balance only, without compounding.
6. Repayment and early settlement
Loans are repaid in equal monthly instalments as set out in your loan agreement. You have a statutory right under section 21 of the Money Lenders Ordinance to settle your loan early at any time by written notice, paying only the outstanding principal and interest accrued to the date of payment, with no penalty. You are entitled on request to written statements of your account under the Ordinance.
7. Your responsibilities
You must provide true and accurate information in your application, upload only your own documents, and keep your contact details current. Providing false information may lead to your application being declined, your loan being called due as the loan agreement provides, and where the law requires, a report to the authorities.
8. No intermediaries
We do not work with paid agents or intermediaries, and no one is authorised to charge you money to obtain a loan from us. If anyone asks you for a fee to "arrange" or "speed up" a Tapat loan, do not pay them and please report it to us. Warning: You have to repay your loans. Don't pay any intermediaries.
9. Privacy
Our handling of your personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.
10. Website use and intellectual property
The content of this website belongs to Tapat and may not be copied for commercial use. We aim to keep the website available and accurate but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Nothing on this website constitutes financial advice.
11. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Hong Kong law, or any of your rights under the Money Lenders Ordinance. Subject to that, we are not liable for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control.
12. Changes
We may update these website terms from time to time; the current version with its date is always on this page. Changes do not affect the terms of a loan agreement already signed.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Hong Kong courts have jurisdiction.
14. Contact and complaints
Questions and complaints: call our complaints hotline at +852 XXXX XXXX or message us at m.me/TapatPay. We acknowledge complaints and respond substantively. Complaints about our conduct as a money lender may also be made to the Companies Registry, the regulator of money lenders in Hong Kong.
